The first version of this song to be released was the song Kanashimi wa tsudzukanai, sung by Megumi Shiina. Her version was released 5 December 1986. It was used as the opening theme for a TV drama in Japan called Kono ko dare no ko? (このこ誰の子?). The music is by Jim Steinman but the lyrics are by Keiko Aso (麻生圭子) and are mainly in Japanese and are not a translation of the original song lyrics. However, it does still say "Good Girls Go To Heaven" on the CD single, and the phrase "No-one said it had to be real, but it's gotta be something you can reach out and feel now" remains intact.
The music video for the Pandora's Box version of this song uses Castle Williams on Governor's Island, New York, as the location of "Pandora's House Of Detention". The prison guard is played by Shirley Stoler, an actress best known for her roles in The Honeymoon Killers, Seven Beauties, and The Deer Hunter. Ellen Foley appears as a member of the dance ensemble.
